Thad Cockrell’s Radio Room
The Radio Room is a first of its kind, audible art exhibit created for people who see MUSIC AS ART.
Thad Cockrell has been releasing music both under his own name and with his band LEAGUES for two decades. Thrust into the national spotlight in early 2021, Cockrell was personally invited by Jimmy Fallon to perform with The Roots on The Tonight Show, after Fallon discovered Cockrell’s song “Swingin’” by Shazaming it in a hardware store. “It became my anthem,” Fallon said. “Because I’m like, when you want to give up, don’t give up! If you’re going to go down, you go down swingin’! This is my anthem, I love this song.” In 2020, Cockrell released his first solo album in over a decade called 'If In Case You Feel the Same,' which features “Swingin’. It is an album that exposes his deepest insecurities and weaknesses, all for the sake of creating a transcendent connection with the audience.
In Spring of 2024, Thad Cockrell will release his newest album “The Kid”, which is the first album from artist Thad Cockerel where it’s everything all together, at the same time. From Pop to Country, Rock, Dance, Hip Hop, Soul, and Gospel, this album has it all. Created as a homage to the great sounds that defined his childhood. Sounds that would randomize in his head as he listened to the radio dial.
In preparation for the launch, we took over a physical art gallery in Nashville Tn, and created a listening room experience where his music was played as it was intended to be heard… loud and intentional. Accessing the room through a secluded door using a speakeasy style key-pad, the audience entered a vibey room with a bench and two speakers. Once inside they were transported to a magical world surrounded by circular motion from the orbs of light, to Thad’s paintings on the walls. To start the music, they spin the radio dial.
Over the course of two weeks more than 850 people participated in the Radio Room Including our VIP event, a media preview, and the Wedgewood- Houston Art Crawl. In true alignment with the record, the space was created to take your imagination on an adventure, and what better way to dream then sitting (or dancing!) next to the person you love and taking time to slow down, and listen to art.
